Swapping electric-vehicle powertrains has become a “thing” in the automotive aftermarket, and we’ve talked to a few folks who have been coming at it from different angles, from resto-modding legend Jonathan Ward at Icon (episode 5) to Honda tuner Ryan Basseri of Rywire (episode 84).
But the guy we’ve wanted to talk to since we started this podcast over 3 years and 100-plus episodes ago? Marc Davis, founder and CEO of Moment Motors.
Why? Because while there now more than a handful of shops across the country that appear to be doing what he’s doing—reengineering classic cars with EV powertrains—Davis and the Moment Motors team have been doing it longer, and better, than almost everyone.
Although you won’t hear that directly from Davis, who is far too modest to sing his own praises. You have to go to folks who know him, like Ward at Icon, a car guy of stratospheric taste and distinction, or ponder why former John Krafcik, a Stanford- and MIT-trained engineer who lead Waymo, TrueCar, and Hyundai Motor America, and is on the board of Rivian, turned to Moment Motors to convert his replica Porsche Speedster.
Yanking the engines and transmissions out of vintage Porsches, Pagoda Benzes, and E-Type Jaguars and replacing them with CALB battery packs and Cascadia Motion motors—heresy you say? Not when you hear Davis tell it.
